In the beginning....

"In the beginning was the Word,and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. All things were made through him." John 1 1,3

In the beginning was a Squeak, and well, I'll admit now that I'm nowhere near as impressive as the the start of John's gospel. But all things must start with a beginning, and here I am. Its nearly midnight on Ash Wednesday. What am I doing? Well I'm attempting to write a blog.

Why a blog? Well we'll come to that in a minute

What's special about tonight, well today was the beginning of Lent. Lent is the church's way of preparing ourselves for Easter. Tonight I had the burnt remains of last year's palm crosses brushed across my forehead, really unusual feeling. But moving right along... Burnt things, ash, Ash Wednesday, you get the idea.

Lent is typically a time of deep spiritual reflection, and fasting. Alot of people give up stuff over this time, alcohol, chocolate, sex, caffeine, you get the idea. I'd thought about this, but this year I wanted to do something different. Giving up chocolate I felt wasn't going to make me closer to God, in fact it would just make me grumpy and irritable etc and then no one would want to b e around me, so that doesn't look hopeful... Alcohol, well that's easy, I barely drink so going 40 days with out a drink, well. We get the idea.

So this is where this blog comes in.

My name is Squeak, I live in the real world, and my aim is to write a post in here every day for 40 days. But not just about anything, I want this to be well a record of my spiritual journey. It sounds intense, and to be honest I'm alittle nervous myself. I've never done a blog before, (No doubt those of you who are reading this have probably figured this out).

So why did I start with "In the beginning..."? Everything has a beginning, a conception. I don't know where this will go or evolve. I mean by day 20 I could be taken away and hung by a group of atheists, I wouldn't want that, but well if Jesus ended up on a cross because of what I did, suddenly writing a blog, well I accept the consequences. (For the atheists out there planning to do this to me, please don't. Also please do not cause trouble)

So let's start at the beginning and let's see where we get too.
